Tambaram Air Force Station
The Tambaram Air Force Station is an Indian Air Force base in Tambaram, a
suburb of Chennai in Tamil Nadu state in southern India. This air force
station is primarily involved in training of pilots.
The stations will have a squadron of 15 Pilatus PC-7 Mk II basic trainers by
2015 at the Flying Instructors School. The PC-7 will join a fleet that
comprises Kiran Mk I and Mk II trainer aircraft, and HAL Cheetah and HAL
Chetak helicopters. An An-32 transport squadron is stationed here. Apart
from training, helicopters from the Indian Navy have also been operated from
this airbase.
Tambaram Air Force Station has 2 intersecting runways, allowing almost all
operational aircraft to land and take off. The Air Force Station is at an
elevation of 90 ft (27 m) above mean sea level.
The runways designated at 05/23 and 12/30 which measures 1,513 m (4,965 ft)
and 1,818 m (5,965 ft) in length respectively. The 2 intersecting runways
are with asphalt surface and manage by Indian Air Force.
