Ahom king Su-sen-pha repaired Nagsankar Temple in 1480. With this
work the king was able to spread his kingdom to the north bank of the
river Brahmaputra and win the faith of the people of the region.
The temple has a large pond by it. The pond is home to large varieties
of turtles and fish. Some turtles are believed to be hundreds of year
old. The temple campus also has peacock, deer , pythons etc. These
animals along with the temple attract tourists.
Nagsankar is a temple of Hindu God Shiva (Sankar). Shivaratri is the
mostle celebrated holy festival in the temple every year.
Getting There
Commuting to Nagsankar Mandir is quite easy and convenient. It is
located east of Tezpur, at Jamuguri.
Silchar is well connected by
road, railways and air to the rest of the country. Regular bus services
connect Silchar with Guwahati, Shillong, Aizawl, Agartala and Imphal through
NH 37 and NH 53.
The nearest Railway Station to
Silchar is Badarpur Railway Station, located at a distance of 32 km from
Silchar. It is very well connected to many major cities like Maibong,
Lumding, Mamit, Dimapur and Guwahati.
Silchar Airport is
about 24 kilometers away from the main city and it takes only a 45-50
minutes drive. Cabs and private cars are easily available at the city for
the airport.
