Children flying without a parent or legal guardian are classified as
Unaccompanied Minors (UMs). If your child is traveling alone under this service,
please ensure all safety measures are followed for a smooth and secure journey.
Malaysia Airlines provides a Special Assistance Crew to offer friendly
support and guidance for children traveling alone. This service is mandatory for
children aged 5–12 traveling without an adult.
The airline’s Unaccompanied Minor (YPTA) program applies to children aged 5 to
under 15 who are not accompanied by a parent, guardian, or an adult passenger
aged 18 or older. (Travel rules for minors may vary depending on the departure
point, so it is best to confirm with Malaysia Airlines.)
If there is a long wait before boarding, your child can rest and enjoy light
refreshments in the Malaysia Airlines Special Assistance Lounge. When boarding
time arrives, they will be escorted to the gate and handed over to the cabin
crew, who will ensure they are settled comfortably.
On arrival, Malaysia Airlines staff will accompany your child through
immigration and baggage claim, then release them to the designated guardian at
the arrival gate.
This service must be requested at the time of booking, and policies or charges
may vary, so you should check with your nearest Malaysia Airlines office for
full details.
