About Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport
 
    
	Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (IATA: GAU, ICAO: VEGT), 
	also known as Guwahati International Airport and formerly as Borjhar 
	Airport, is the primary international airport of the North-Eastern States of 
	India, situated at Borjhar in Guwahati, Assam, named after Gopinath Bordoloi, 
	who was a freedom fighter and also the first Chief Minister of Assam after 
	independence.
	
	The airport is managed by Airports Authority of 
	India (AAI) and also serves as Indian Air Force base. There are plans to 
	expand the airport with two more aerobridges in the pipeline. A new hangar 
	was also constructed to facilitate overnight parking of aircraft.
	
	Guwahati Airport is a hub for domestic flights to North-East India. 
	Helicopter services are operated from Guwahati to Shillong, Tura, Naharlagun 
	(Itanagar), Tawang by Pawan Hans.
	
	Blue Dart Aviation also served cargo services from this airport to
	Kolkata International Airport (CCU).
