Forest Research Institute

The Forest Research Institute of India, popularly called as FRI Dehradun is
an architectural marvel and vast collection of forestry related items in its
six museums, FRI is a must visit place in Dehradun.
Established in 1906 as Imperial Forest Research Institute, Forest Research
Institute (FRI) Dehradun has magnificent colonial style of architecture. The
main attraction is its main building which is a National Heritage and styled
in Greeko Roman Architecture by C.G. Blomfield in 1929.
Forest Research Institute (FRI) is spread over 2000 acres of extraordinary
scenic and calm green fields having rows of trees.
Visitors often like to take long walk in the serene and peaceful environment
of FRI. One can witness wide varieties of plants and trees from across the
worlds in the fields of FRI. Photographers also like the landscapes of FRI.
Apart from main building and green field, tourists can also enjoy an picnic
place, Botanical Garden in the FRI campus. Some of the most popular forest
museums of the world are in FRI Dehradun. It has six museums based on social
forestry, pathology, silviculture, timber, non-wood forest products and
entomology.

Getting There
Forest Research Institute is located at the 5 km from Dehradun city center
at Chakrata Road. One can reach easily at Forest Research Institute by
autorickshaw (vikram no- 6 from Connaught Place), bus or by taxi from any
part of the Dehradun city. Dehradun railway station is at 6 kms from FRI and
airport is at Jolly Grant
