Thirupparankundram

Tirupparaṅkuṉṟam is a town in Madurai district in Tamil Nadu. Located on the outskirts of Madurai on a hillock where Kartikeyan married Indra's daughter Deivanai. Tirupparaṅkuṉṟam is known for its ancient temple of Murugan.

The temple is the first among the Six Abodes of Murugan and is one of the most visited tourist spots in Madurai, next only to the Meenakshi Amman Temple. The Six Abodes of Murugan are six temples situated in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India.

 

The god is known by different names such as Karthikeya, Skanda, Vadivela and Muruga at various temples.

Getting There

Madurai Airport is the nearest airport to this temple. The airport is located about 12 km (7.5 mi) from the Madurai railway station and 15 km from the city center.

Frequent bus services are available from in and around Madurai. Route Nos. 5,14, 22,48, 49 and 52 from Periyar bus stand and Mattuthavani Bus stand covers Tiruparankundram.
