Alisagar Reservoir

Alisagar Reservoir is a lift irrigation project located in Nizamabad district in Telangana, India. The lift canal originates from the back waters of Pochampadu Dam.

Alisagar Lift irrigation scheme is intended to stabilize the gap ayacut of 53,793 acres from distributor 50 to 73 of Nizamsagar Project. The foreshore water of Sriram Sagar Project at Kosli (Village) will be lifted in three stages to feed the Alisagar balancing Reservoir at Mile 54 to Mile 56 on Main Canal of Nizamsagar Project.

In the first stage 720 cusecs of water from Godavari River is proposed to be lifted from Kosli (V) Navipet (Mandal) Nizamabad Dist. and proposed to be dropped into cistern at Bharath Tanda.

 

There is a garden near the reservoir which was developed by the Nizams of Hyderabad. This garden is spread over a total land area of 33 acres and is popular for its fountains, tree house, deer park and a flower garden.

The Alisagar Deer Park is situated near the reservoir was established in 1985 and hosts many species of deer. This park serves as a good picnic spot especially for kids. The area is spread amid natural hillocks and colourful flower gardens. The lake and its awe inspiring surroundings are rich in scenic beauty.

Tourists can visit an island which is inside the Alisagar Lake. Boating facility is also available here. The hilltop guest house and trekking are the other attractions at Alisagar.
 

Getting There

Alisagar Reservoir is one of the leading attractions in the city. It is located 13 km from Nizamabad and it is frequented by local people and tourists in great numbers.

Nizamabad is well connected by good roads to all the major cities of India.  The major highways that pass through the city are National Highway 44 (NH 44) and National Highway 63 (NH63). Bus service is one of the important modes of transportation in Nizamabad. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) runs around 700 buses through the city on a daily basis, with a bus for every 15 minutes to Hyderabad.

The Nizamabad Junction Railway Station is located on the Secunderabad-Manmad section of Hyderabad Division of the South Central Railway Zone (SCR) and is one of the major stations on Secunderabad-Manmad railway line.

The nearest Domestic / International Airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport of Hyderabad, located at a distance of 202 kilometers from Nizamabad Bus Station. Bus and taxi to Nizamabad are available in the Airport.

In Nizamabad, taxis, buses and autos are available easily. There are a number of moderately priced hotels in the town.
