The project is used for both irrigation purposes and power
generation. It has an 600 Megawatt capacity. The dam is one of the
highest earth-fill dams in India and has the largest diameter penstock
pipes in the country.
It is located upstream of the Madhopur Barrage at Madhopur.
Getting There
Ranjit Sagar Dam is located 32 km from Pathankot.
Pathankot is well connected by
good roads to Chandigarh, Amritsar and Ludhiana. Pathankot Junction Railway Station
are rail station which provides rail connectivity to the city. Pathankot is
well linked both within and outside the state of Punjab.
Maharana Pratap Inter State Bus
Terminal is the main bus terminal in Pathankot. It's close to the Pathankot
Junction Railway station. Public HRTC buses to Dharamsala take 3 - 4 hours
while buses to Amritsar take 3 hours.
Pathankot Airport is
a Civil Domestic Airport located 3 km from the nearest city Pathankot and 7
km from the Pathankot Railway Station. Currently there are no scheduled
flights operated in this Airport.
