The Pondicherry Museum housing some of the superb collections of
sculpture is located in the Bharathi Park. This museum has an excellent
gallery with sculptures and has the remains of archaeological findings from
the Arikamedu Roman settlement.
One can go through the history and legendary French colonial details in the
section of the museum.
There is also a very good collection of snail shells brought from the
Pondicherry region. Bronze sculptures of god and goddess, a wide gathering
of temple lamps, handicrafts and art are also here. Some specimens of Chola
and Pallava art from Pondicherry and Karaikal are dispalyed in the sculpture
gallery.
The painting section includes Tanjore and glass paintings, colonial prints
and contemporary oils, pastles and water colors.

Getting There

stops from Chennai.
Pondicherry hosts its own railway
station that connects the city with all other major cities like Bhubaneshwar,
Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Kanpur. So, one
planning to reach Pondicherry by train has got wider options.
Pondicherry has its own airport
named
Pondicherry Airport,
located at Lawspet, 7.5 km away from town center. Currently there is no
commercial scheduled flights services at this Airport.
The nearest domestic / international airport is
Chennai International Airport,
located at Chennai, 148 km north of Pondicherry. It is about three hours
drive to Chennai International
Airport from Pondicherry. To make arrangements for a taxi from Airport
