Japanese Bunker

The Japanese occupation of the Andaman Islands occurred in 1942 during World War II (WW II). You are likely to come across Japanese Bunkers in many places in Andaman.

These military fortifications were built by the Japanese soldiers to provide some measure of protection from the falling shells and bombs during WW II.  It can be visited these days. Some with anti-aircraft gun (replica) is standing on the roof.

Located in various places in Andaman namely: Mayabunder, Corbyn's Cove, Ross Island, etc.

 

How to reach

Veer Savarkar International Airport also known as Port Blair Airport (IATA: IXZ, ICAO: VOPB), is a customs airport located 2 km (1.2 mi) south of Port Blair and is the main airport of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India.

One can easily reach Japanese Bunker from the city by taking local Buses, Rickshaws and Taxis.
