When flying with American Airlines from India, such as from
Delhi Airport (DEL)
or Mumbai Airport
(BOM), baggage allowances depend on the fare type, destination, and frequent
flyer status.
Checked Baggage
For most international flights departing from India—often to the U.S. via
connecting routes—Economy Class passengers may check one bag free of charge,
weighing up to 23 kg (50 lbs) and measuring no more than 158 cm (62 in) in total
dimensions.
Premium Economy, Business, and First Class passengers are entitled to two or
more complimentary checked bags, with higher weight allowances of 32 kg (70 lbs)
per bag in premium cabins.
Carry-On Baggage
Passengers are permitted one carry-on bag, measuring no more than 56 x 36 x 23
cm, along with one personal item such as a handbag or laptop case. Both items
must fit either in the overhead compartment or beneath the seat ahead.
Excess and Overweight Baggage
Excess baggage charges apply for additional pieces, oversized, or overweight
items. For departures from India, extra bag fees typically range from USD
$100–$200 per piece, depending on weight and destination. Overweight baggage
between 23–32 kg incurs an extra charge, while items exceeding 32 kg are not
permitted in Economy Class.
AAdvantage® and Oneworld Elite Status
Elite status holders—such as AAdvantage Platinum or Oneworld Sapphire
members—are entitled to enhanced baggage allowances, which may include one or
more additional checked bags at no extra cost.
