A religious tourist destination
to visit, Karad is a small town of Satara district in the state of
Maharashtra. It is located at the confluence of Koyna River and the Krishna
River. The convergence of both the rivers is termed as Preeti Sangam which
means ‘Lovely Meeting’.
Karad is well known for sugar production and is known as the sugar bowl of
Maharashtra owing to the presence of many sugar factories in and around
Karad. It is considered as an important educational hub in Western
Maharashtra due to the presence of many prestigious educational institutes.
Karad town is well known as "Dakshin Kashi" and "Karhatak". It is also a
mythological city and is believed to be the holy city as Lord Rama stepped
his feet on this land.
The National Highway 4 (NH4) goes
by Karad City. NH4 is a major National Highway in Western and Southern
India.
Karad Bus Station is a major bus
terminal, which is served by the Maharashtra State Road Transport
Corporation (MSRTC) from Pune, Satara, Mumbai, Kolhapur and Solapur.
Karad has its own Railway Station
named as Karad Railway Station which is connected to the major cities of
Maharashtra. The Railway Station located around 4 km from town center and
situated on the major Mumbai-Kolhapur railway line and it is linked with the
cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Mysore, Sangli, Chennai, etc.
Karad has its own domestic airport named as
Karad Airport.
It is currently being used for general aviation and pilot training.

Pune International Airport, roughly 178 km from Karad. Pune
