Salem is a beautiful city and a Municipal Corporation in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu. Salem is also known as Mango city. This beautiful city is situated in the North Central part of the state. Salem is counted as the fifth biggest city in Tamil Nadu state in terms of population after Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, and Tiruchirappalli respectively. Salem is the main city of western Tamil Nadu. The city is located at the base of beautiful Yercaud hills.

The city is one of the major producers of traditional silver anklets that are quite popular among women. Major industries of the city are textile, steel, automotive and poultry. The city has one of the largest magnetite ore deposits in the country. Some of the leading companies such as Dalmia and Tanmag have mines here. Leigh Bazaar is famous as a large regional market for agro products. Some of the most important food crops which are grown in Salem district are paddy, cholam, cumbu, redgram, greengram, blackgram, horsegram, turmeric, sugarcane, mango, bannana, tapiaco, groundnut and gingelly.

Yercaud Hills Yercaud Hills
Yercaud is one of the most well known hill stations of Tamil Nadu. Yercaud is connected to city of Salem, Tamil Nadu through Highway of 29 km.
Mettur Dam Mettur Dam
The dam creates Stanley Reservoir. The Mettur Hydro Electrical power project is also quite large. The dam, the park, the major Hydro Electric power stations and hills on all sides make Mettur a tourist attraction.
Kiliyur Falls Kiliyur Falls
A waterfall in the Shervarayan hill range in the Eastern Ghats, Tamil Nadu, India. The waters overflowing the Yercaud Lake fall 300 ft (91 m) into the Kiliyur Valley.

The Kurumbapatti Zoological Park, situated on a sprawling 11.5 hectares of reserve forest land, at the foothills of Shevaroyan Hills.
 
Tharamangalam Temples Tharamangalam Temples
Located 30 km from Salem. A Siva temple, perhaps the most beautiful of its kind in Salem District. Parts of it existed as early as the tenth century.
